| Virgil Slider, 80, of Mt. Zion (Hur) died May 3 in Charleston Area Medical Center.
He was the son of the late T.H. and Oneida Husk Slider of Slider Fork. He was retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways and was a member of Eureka Lodge #40 AF & AM. He was a member of the Mt. Olive United Methodist Church of Hur and was a veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Maze Slider and his second wife, Ruth Wood Slider. Also a brother, Helma Slider, two sisters Wilma Becker and Lillian Dacchille.
He is survived by 5 children, Lewis Slider and Thomas Slider of Mt. Zion (Hur), Charles of Elkview and Stephen of North Carolina and daughter, Twila Montgomery of Mt. Zion.
Also surviving are 8 step-children, Calvin Wood of Florida, Brenda Brown of Grantsville, Debbie Wood of Spencer, Carol Greenlief of Glenville, Robert Wood of Normantown, Jackie Shimer of Grantsville, Tammy Rader of Creston and Sharon Wallbrown of Sissonville.
Surviving nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, thirteen
step-grandchildren and four step-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday (May 6) at the Stump Funeral Home in Grantsville with the Rev. Rick Swearingen. Interment will be in the Slider Cemetery on Barnes Run. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Saturday evening.
