Neighbors were awakened by an explosion to discover a newly built country home on Lower Nicut in flames.
The house, belonging to Ron Grim and his wife, was a total loss as Upper West Fork firemen arrived on the scene shortly after 4 a.m. today.
Next door neighbor Carl Smith said Grim had left for New Jersey Monday evening for medical tests.
"It was a really nice country home. They had worked on building it for about a year," said Smith.
Tankers from the Arnoldsburg VFD also responded to the blaze on Lower Nicut, about two miles off the main Nicut Road.
Calhoun EMS dispatched an ambulance to the scene. There were no injuries.
