Mavis garnet Wilson Woodyard passed away on September 3, 2004 at the home of her caregiver Sue Dilley of Sutton, West Virginia.
She was born September 19, 1916 on Laural Fork in Gilmer County She was the daughter of Floris Birton and Lilly Lawson Wilson. She was the oldest of six children. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Orel Wilson of Florida, Arden Wilson of Ohio and a sister, Maysel Wilson Miles of Stonewood, WV.
She was married to Park Woodyard who preceded her in death in 1977. She and Park had two children, who survive, Wayne and his wife JoAnn of Cedarville, WV and Helen of Shock, WV. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Becky Pyles and Katrina Bosley, and two great granddaughters, Mikala Pyles and Lindsey Bosley.
Garnet loved flowers and gardening, needlework, helping friends and family and had a wonderfully optimistic attitude toward life. She wrote poetry and kept journals throughout her life. She was a member of the Shock Church of Christ.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to Alzheimer's research or any foundation that works in researching dementia.
At her request there will be no funeral service. Visitation hours are 2 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8 at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 9 at Collins community Cemetery in Stumptown. |
