Chester Forest Fluharty, 80 of Grantsville, West Virginia died Thursday, September 2, 2004 at Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center, Grantsville.
He was born March 31, 1924 a son of the late Guy and Ivy Snider Fluharty. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving in WWII, serving from 1942-1945 and was a Purple Heart Award recipient. He retired from the U.S. Army Reserve Unit in Grantsville.
He married Cora Mae Valentine on October 6, 1945, whom preceded him in death on November 4, 2003. He was retired from Consolidated Natural Gas Company, where he was a field foreman with 36 years of service.
He was a former two term Mayor of Grantsville, and a former Fire Chief of the Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department. Chester and Mae had enjoyed the last 20 years residing in Lake Panasoffkee, Florida where he was a member of DAV and American Legion.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by brothers, Durl, Clide and Burl.
Surviving are his sister, Lena Barker of Pine Grove, WV; son, Thomas Scott Fluharty and his wife Barbara of Annamoriah, WV; granddaughter, Dena Roberts and her husband Randy of Spencer, WV; two great-grandsons, Dylan and Haden Roberts of Spencer.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Rev. Ken Heiney will officiate. Interment will be in the Fluharty Cemetery, Big Springs.
Visitation will be Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. |
