AN ORDER OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF THE COUNTY OF CALHOUN
DIRECTING AN ELECTION TO BE HELD FOR THE PURPOSE OF SUBMITTING TO
THE VOTERS OF THE CALHOUN COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT THE QUESTION OF
A PROPOSED EXCESS LEVY FOR THE YEARS 2005-06, 2006-07, 2007-08,
2008-09, AND 2009-10.
BE IT ORDERED BY THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF THE COUNTY OF
CALHOUN:
The Board of Education of the County of Calhoun, finding that the maximum
levies for the current expenses authorized by Article 8, Chapter 11 of the Code
of West Virginia, as last amended, will not provide sufficient funds for the
payment of the current expenses of the Board of Education, including
expenditures for the purposes hereinafter set forth, and that an election
should be held to generate levy funds as provided for under the provision of
Section 16, Article 8, Chapter 11 of the Code, as last amended, it is hereby
ordered:
That the purposes for which the additional funds are needed, and the
approximate annual amount for each purpose are as follows:
A. To provide funds for the employment of teachers and service personnel
positions not funded by the State School Aid Formula, the sum of
approximately $194,000.
B. To provide funds for curricular and extra curricular activities to include,
transportation costs and supplements for athletic coaches, academic
sponsors, band and choir directors, the sum of approximately $75,000.
C. To provide funds to all schools for instructional materials, supplies, and
equipment, including copiers, the sum of approximately $43,000.
D. To provide support for the WVU Extension Service, the sum of approximately
$5,000.
E. To provide funds to maintain all school facilities and to defray utility costs,
the sum of approximately $94,609.
That the approximate amount necessary on an annual basis to carry out all of
the above purposes, after making reasonable allowance for uncollected taxes
is $411,609 and that the total amount necessary during the five year term of
the levy is $2,058,045.
That the separate and aggregate assessed valuation of each class of taxable
property within the Calhoun County School District is as follows:
Class I $ 1,973,907.00
Class II 53,318,272.00
Class III 83,827,209.00
Class IV 8,907,137.00
Total $148,026,525.00
That the proposed additional rate of levy in cents on each class of property per
$100 valuation within the Calhoun County School District is as follows:
Class I 9.18 cents
Class II 18.36 cents
Class III 36.72 cents
Class IV 36.72 cents
That the years to which the proposed additional levy shall apply are the fiscal
years beginning July 1, 2006, July 1, 2007, July 1, 2008, July 1, 2009, and July
1, 2010.
That no issuance of bonds is proposed in connection with this levy.
That the question of such additional levy shall be submitted to a vote at the
general election to be held on November 2, 2004.
That notice calling such election shall be given by publication of this order at
least once each week for two successive weeks before said election in two
newspapers of opposite politics and of general circulation in the Calhoun
County School District. All the provisions of the laws concerning general
elections shall apply so far as they are practicable.
That the ballot to be used at such election shall be in the form as follows:
Election to authorize additional levies for the following years 2006-07, 2007-08,
2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11 for the following purposes:
To provide funds for the employment of teachers and service personnel
positions not funded by the State School Aid Formula, the sum of

To provide funds for curricular and extra curricular activities to include,
transportation costs and supplements for athletic coaches, academic
sponsors, band and choir directors, the sum of approximately $75,000

To provide funds to maintain all school facilities and to defray utility costs, the
sum of approximately $ 94,609.
That the approximate amount necessary on an annual basis to carry out all of
the above purposes, after making reasonable allowance for uncollected taxes
is $411,609 and that the total amount necessary during the five year term of
the levy is $2,058,045 or such amount as the proposed additional levy rates
may produce when applied to annual assessed valuation of taxable property in
the Calhoun County School District; and further, any additional money derived
from an increase in levy funds shall be used for the purposes listed above, all
according to the order of the Board of Education of the County of Calhoun
entered the 23rd day of August, 2004.
The proposed additional rate of levy in cents on each class of property per
$100 of assessed valuation shall be on Class I property 9.18 cents; on Class II
property 18.36 cents; on Class III property 36.72 cents; and on Class IV
property 36.72 cents.
The board of education will not issue bonds upon approval of the proposed
increased levy.
INSTRUCTIONS TO VOTERS:
Those favoring the additional levies, place an "X" in the square before "FOR
THE LEVIES".
Those against such levies, place an "X" in the square before "AGAINST THE
LEVIES".
