It is back to school time and the School Based Health Center is ready to
provide your child with quality care.
We are pleased to once again offer your child a variety of health care services.
At the beginning of the year, your child will receive a packet of information
from the school. Permission slips for School Based services are located
inside.
There are several exciting things going on this year at the School Based
Health Center.
The Center will once again be offering Hepatitis B immunizations to all 11-18
year old students who are registered at the School Based Health Center.
If you have insurance, they will be billed but you will not be required to pay any
co-pay.
For more information on the Hepatitis B shots, please contact Martha Johnson
at 354-6851. All necessary forms need to be submitted by October 15, 2004 to
receive the immunizations this year.
The Peer Mentoring Program will be up and running again this fall.
We welcome Virginia "Jenny" Richards (left) as the new Peer Mentoring Assistant.
This is a wonderful after-school program where high school students mentor
middle school students.
This year we are looking forward to a variety of adventures including guest
speakers, community service opportunities and field trips. A letter explaining
the program has also been included in your packet from the school.
Jenny has several years experience working
with kids of all ages.
The School Based Health Center continues to provide behavioral health
services to the students at Calhoun Middle High/School. Terri (Bell) Goodnight
is the School Based Counselor located in the center.
Her name may have changed over the summer, but Terri continues to provide
the highest quality of service to her students. Those students who would like
to receive counseling service will need to fill out the appropriate permission
slip in your packet.
We would also like to welcome our new Family Nurse Practitioner, Donna
Shanholtzer (pictured left) to the staff of Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center.
Donna will be working full-time for the School Based Health Center at Calhoun
Middle/High School, Arnoldsburg Elementary and Pleasant Hill Elementary.
Donna has been a nurse for ten years starting in Home Health and Hospice
care. Recently, Donna was working in Oncology at Ohio Valley Medical Center
in Wheeling, WV. Donna received her Bachelors in Nursing from West Liberty
College. She went on to obtain her Masters from the WVU School of Nursing.
*Insert picture of Donna with caption reading "I'm really excited about getting
started in School Based Health. I can't wait to work with the kids."
Donna, who is originally from California, came to West Virginia twelve years
ago with her husband Dave and their four sons: David, Derrick, Darryl and
Douglas. Dave is originally from West Virginia and wanted to come back home
to raise their children in a safe environment.
Donna and Dave have been married 22 years. Donna says the majority of her
time has been spent working and studying. She is very active in her local
church where she has been a Sunday School teacher for twelve years. She is
also the Adult Chair of the Christian Education Board.
We are looking forward to making this the best year we've had so far at the
School Based Health Center. We are focused on meeting the needs of the
students and staff at our schools.
If you have any questions concerning the services available please contact
Beverly Ford at 354-9244 or Martha Johnson at 354-6851. Welcome back
students and we are looking forward to a great school year.
