KNIFE AND GUN CLUB - Sixty-Four Bullets Fly In Kanawha Melee

(08/12/2004)
Police were struggling today to determine whether three sets of shootings since last weekend are related and Charleston residents say they've had enough.

The most recent shootings occurred about 11 p.m. Wednesday at Littlepage Terrace on Charleston's West Side. Two people were shot in two separate shootings at the housing complex.

More bullets were flying in Kanawha County yesterday after two men were shot to death near a bar earlier this week.

This time the shooting was in South Charleston near their famous mound.

Police discovered 64 spent shell casings after a gun battle about 1:15 a.m. involving at least four different weapons, said South Charleston Police Chief David Dunlap.

One man and a male juvenile were hospitalized with gunshot wounds.

"We're getting mixed stories about what took place," said the chief.

"It's not like the O.K. Corral around here," said bar owner Alex Paolina. "I'm not running a Wild West bar here."

Meanwhile, the Charleston bar where two deaths took place has been closed.

MINGO MAN STABS THREE

A Mingo County man is accused of stabbing his wife and two other people who tried to break up a domestic dispute.

The woman was flown by helicopter to Cabell-Huntington Hospital in Huntington with life-threatening injuries.

Two bystanders received minor injuries.
