Efforts to construct a playground for Calhoun Middle School students is back
on track, according to Jan Whited. Whited is seeking community help to move
the project along.
A meeting on the project is scheduled for August 3rd at 2 p.m. at Calhoun
Middle/High School. "We really need parents and community members to come
and support this project," said Whited.
The long proposed playground has gone through several committees, the issue
of where the playground would be located on the Mt. Zion campus and what
appears to be a lack of funds to construct the playground.
The playground site has been designated.
Student from 5th through 8th grade have been essentially using the
parking lot for recreation since the new school was built.
A few years ago the playground received a $10,000 Budget Digest grant to
purchase equipment, but it has never been used.
"I feel that this project is very
important to the school and community and I would love to see a playground
for the
students when school starts this year," said Whited.
