Hayden Pursley, 75, of Enterprise, Fla., died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at his home.
Mr. Pursley was a 1949 graduate of Spencer High School and subsequently served in the U.S. Army during the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, retiring from the military in January 1980. Following retirement from the military, he purchased and restored a historic hotel, built in 1903 as well as surrounding properties in downtown Enterprise. His accomplishments and dedication were recently recognized and honored by proclamation and award of keys to the city. He was also a member of Moriah Lodge No. 38, AF & AM.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Iris Simmons; and one brother, Robert C. Pursley.
He is survived by two sons, David N. Pursley of Winter Springs, Fla., and Stuart R. Pursley of Orlando, Fla.; two sisters, Louise Jaynes of Hernando, Fla., and Eileen McKee of Millstone, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Lauren, Shelby and Kristen Pursley; his longtime companion, Karin Murray, and her extended family; and other family members, whom he considered special, along with many friends and relatives.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 16, 2004, at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Mike King officiating. Burial will be in the Spencer Memorial Cemetery with military graveside rites by American Legion Post No. 21.
