West Virginia's liquor sales have reached an all-time high during 2003-04,
according to the state Alcohol Beverage Control Administration
Commissioner.
The ABCA reported $59.4 million of revenue from liquor sales for the year
ending June 30, up more than $3.5 million from 2002-03.
The Charleston Newspapers said the economy is either booming, or citizen's
are drowning their problems in booze.
Commissioner Ron Moats said
"People are buying higher-end products."
Moats said sales increased despite the loss of a major liquor retailer. The Big
Bear grocery chain filed for bankruptcy and closed its seven West Virginia
stores last year.
