Eighteen-year-old Danielle Greathouse was excited to be back to her Cabot
Station home last night, recalling her Florida adventures at Disney World with
her family, having been a guest of the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
Danielle said "It was the first time I have flown and the first time I have ridden
in a big limousine." She said "I didn't like looking down," from the airplane "but
I got along o.k."
The Calhoun girl suffers from cystic fibrosis.
"I met a lot of kids with illnesses," where she stayed with her escorts Cokie
and Pam Gainer of Sand Ridge. "It was a great place, called 'Give Kids the
World.' They had a gingerbread house where you could get your meals, and the
place has its own ice cream parlor, all you could eat," she said.
Cokie Gainer said "It was an amazing adventure, very tiring for us older folks
though." The days were spent going to Disney World, Epcot Center, Universal
Studios and several other tourist destinations.
Danielle said she liked the Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom the best. "They
sure had a big parade at Disney World on the Fourth of July. "But it is a place
where they have fireworks every night," she exclaimed.
Danielle is the foster daughter of Marvin and Betty Wilson, well-known Calhoun
foster parents. "She has been our child since she was six years old," said Ms.
Wilson. "What a joy she has been."
The Wilson's have foster-parented over sixty kids.
Danielle will be graduating from Calhoun High School in 2005.
