Henry S. Goodnight, 75, of Macfarlan, W.Va., died July 5, 2004, in Parkersburg.
He was born Jan. 7, 1929, at Freed, Calhoun County. Mr. Goodnight was the son of the late Ray and Dora Mathess Goodnight. He was a steel worker by trade, employed by Republic Steel, Massillon, Ohio; he served in the U.S. Marine Corps; and attended the Bethel Chapel United Methodist Church, Dutchman, W.Va.
Mr. Goodnight is survived by his wife of 53 years, Clarissa "Sis" Strickling Goodnight; one son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Jane Goodnight of Bolivar, Ohio; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy Lea and Fred Messenger of Massillon and Robin and John Parks of Bolivar; a nephew, who had resided with the Goodnight family for several years, Gary Jones of Parkersburg; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several other nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Goodnight was preceded in death by two children, a daughter, Anita Jo Goodnight, and a son, Mitchell Scott Goodnight; three sisters, Maxine Woods, Edith Collins and Madeline Taylor; and three brothers, John Goodnight, Olin Goodnight and "Pete" Goodnight.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bethel Chapel United Methodist Church, Dutchman, W.Va., with the Rev. Frank Plybon officiating. Interment will be at Hartley Cemetery, Brohard, Wirt County, W.Va. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. today at Raiguel Funeral Home, Harrisville and from noon-1 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
