Putnam County commissioners have raised a red flag with Powerball winner
Jack Whittaker's construction company.
Commissioner Jim Caruthers said he was wary of approving Whittaker's
Diversified Enterprises as a low bidder for a new water project, because of the
company's work on an industrial park in Fraziers Bottom.
The delay at Fraziers Bottom, causing Nippon Thermostat to not open on time is
costing the county jobs, said the commissioner.
Whittaker's company has offered to complete the second phase of the Fisher's
Ridge project for $337,400. The work will mostly consist of digging ditches and
laying line.
The next lowest bidder was $19,000 over the Whittaker bid.
Whittaker's company came to Calhoun a number of years ago and laid the
water line for Pleasant Hill Public Service District.
Calhoun water company officials have complained about the improper
installation of the lines, causing frequent breaks ever since.
