West Virginia is close to the bottom in having high school and college
diplomas.
While those numbers are improving, West Virginia residents lag behind the rest
of the nation in both categories.
The latest census estimates say more than 84 percent of US residents 25 and
older last year had graduated from high school.
West Virginia ranked second to last in the percentage of residents --
78-point-seven percent who have a high school diploma or higher.
Texas, whose educational system has been highly touted, was last with
77-point-two percent.
US residents with at least a bachelor's degree from college inched up to a
little over 27 percent.
The percentage of West Virginians age 25 and over with a bachelor's degree or
higher was only 15-point-three percent. It was the nation's lowest rate.
The rates vary greatly by race and ethnicity. |
