THREE CALHOUN-GILMER WRITERS TAKE AWARDS - Tops In WV Writer's Competition

West Virginia Writers, Inc. has announced the winners in this year's Annual Writing Competition, and congratulations go to three members of the Calhoun-Gilmer Writer's Guild for their awards.

Jeanne Wilson of Riffle Run Road, took third place in the Appalachian Writing category for "Big Gray Blur," which was judged by George Brosi and had 82 entries. Wilson also won third place in the Short Story category for "Poppa's Purple Head," judged by Lee Maynard, with 82 entires.

Wilson was also presented with an Honorable Mention award in the Nonfiction Articles/Essays/Memoirs category for "My Father, Abe Lincoln and I," judged by Barbara Tedford, with 87 entries.

Lisa Sheldon from Creston, moderator of the Calhoun-Gilmer Writer's Guild, received an honorable mention for her entry in the Children's Books category, judged by Cheryl Ware, with 60 entries.

Honorable mention also went to Harriet Whipkey of Gilmer County for her entry in the Nonfiction Articles/Essays/Memoirs category for "Wallpapering" from her memoirs.

This year's competition saw a total of 837 entries from 351 West Virginia writers. Total cash awards amounted to $4,500.00.
