SAME SPOT, DIFFERENT DAY AUTO ACCIDENT - Rain And Asphalt Slick Hog Knob Hill

(06/12/2004)

It was a same spot, different day accident on Hog Knob Hill yesterday as a car spun out of control on rain-slick Route 5 and crashed into several trees, sending the driver and a infant passenger to Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center.

Sources at the scene indicated the driver did not appear to be seriously injured, and the infant escaped injury being secured in a car seat.

The car appeared to be a total loss.

The Toyota was traveling west, coming down Hog Knob Hill on the Grantsville side. A light rain shower had just covered the area.

The area has been the site of numerous accidents in recent years, usually a mix of rain and oil that appears to seep through the asphalt.

The auto in yesterday's accident struck "The same usual trees," said Chief Deputy Carl Ballengee. "The car landed in the frequent spot."

Calhoun EMS, the Grantsville VFD and the Calhoun Sheriff's Department responded to the accident about noon.
