Mid-Ohio Valley Rural Health Alliance Presents
"Dining with Diabetes"
Good nutrition and sensible eating habits can help prevent many
diet-related diseases. In recognition of the importance of good
nutrition and the link between nutrition and chronic problems such as
heart disease and cancer, the Mid-Ohio Valley Rural Health Alliance in
conjunction with WVU Extension Office will present "Dining with
Diabetes" nutrition and cooking class on Tuesday, June 8, at the
Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Featured displays will improve participants' awareness of healthy eating
and the risks of unhealthy diets, and includes individual physical
assessments, as well as displays on obesity, fad diets, the food
pyramid, the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) eating plan,
and taste testing. Participants will have time to visit each of the
displays before taking their seats for the cooking demonstration. Kathy
Carol, a provider from Ritchie County Primary Care, and Patty Morrison,
Wirt County WVU Extension Agent, will be conducting cooking
demonstrations and talk about proper nutrition for controlling
diabetes. Because tasting is believing, everyone will have an
opportunity to sample these tasty treats. In addition, all participants
will receive a free cookbook, "Mix and Match Meals in Minutes".
"Dining with Diabetes " is free of charge. Space is limited to 35
participants. To avoid being turned away at the door, you must make a
reservation in advance.
Contact Jim Sullivan at
354-9244, extension 160 or e-mail at jsullivan@mhhcc.com to make
reservations.
"Dining with Diabetes" is funded by a Community Based Initiatives grant

Hospital, Ritchie County Primary Care Association, Wirt County Health
