Team Bon Jovi/West Virginia once again split its forces between NORBA and WVMBA racing this past weekend. The National Team was at Big Bear Lake, CA, for the NORBA NCS Snow Summit races, while the regional team members "toured" the lake at Charles Fork, Aquafina Spencer's Tour de Lake.
In California, Jenny Smith, riding Women's Pro, placed 11th in Friday's Time Trial, 8th in Saturday's Cross Country.Bryan Fawley, Men's Pro, took 37th in the Time Trial, and 34th in Cross Country. Mandi Riddle, Women's Pro, placed 41st in the Time Trial, and 34th in the Cross Country.
Riding Men's Semi-Pro, Clay Evans placed 11th in the Short Track. Steve Thaxton, Expert Men 40-44, placed 8th in the Cross Country and 9th in the Short Track. Joey Riddle, Expert Men, placed 11th in the Cross Country, and 11th in the Short Track.
After 3 NCS NORBA Races, the team is looking pretty good, with Steve Thaxton ranking 1st in the Men's Expert 40-44 XC, and 3rd in Men's Expert 30+ Short Track. Joey Riddle is ranked 1st in Men's Expert 25-29 XC, and 5th in Men's Expert 19-29 Short Track. Clay Evans ranks 4th in Men's Semi-Pro Short Track and 16th in Cross Country.
Meanwhile, in West Virginia, Junior Expert Andrew Fetty took a 1st place at the Tour de Lake. Men's Sport 26-34 rider Michael Haid also placed 1st. Cai Clothier, Junior Sport 14 & under, took 2nd place, Wes Stafford, riding Men's Sport Vet 35+ placed 3rd, and Courtney Dudley, Women's Expert, placed 4th.
Team Bon Jovi/West Virginia is back home: You can see them Wednesday, May 26th at 1 p.m. at the Governor's Proclamation ceremony to declare June, 2004 as West Virginia Mountain Bike Month. You can also see them next Sunday, May 30th, at the Race the Trace Mountain Bike Race at South Charleston's Trace Fork Park.
