Calhoun County High School has named Zachary Houchin, Chelsie Hupp and
Barbara Shock as co-valedictorians and Victoria L. Lamont as salutatorian for the
Class of 2004.
They will be recognized during graduation exercises Friday evening. The
graduation ceremony starts at 7 pm.
ZACHARY LEE HOUCHIN,
Valedictorian
Zachary is the son of Jeff and Kelley Houchin of Arnoldsburg. He is a four-year
varsity football letterman and co-captain in 2003-04, a three-year varsity
basketball letterman and co-captain in 2003-2004, a four-year varsity baseball
letterman, a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Student Huddle
Leader, Prom Committee, Yearbook Staff, Student Council, two-year participant in
SCORES, three-year National Honor Society member, three-year Mu Alpha Theta
member and Senior Class President.
Zach was a Know Your State Government Day Representative, 2nd team All
Conference LKC Football Team, 3rd Team All Conference LKC Baseball Team, 1st
Team All Conference LKC Baseball Team, G. Belmont Berry Scholar, Promise
Scholar, High Honor Graduate, and Co-Valedictorian.
He has also been involved in 4-H and 4-H teen leaders, 4-H basketball Instructor,
CCACC volunteer, Little League Baseball Umpire, Youth Basketball Instructor,
Youth League Basketball Referee, Adopt-A-Highway, public address announcer
for Calhoun Youth Football, and a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist
Church.
Zach will attend West Virginia University, majoring in Chemistry and plans a
career in medicine.
CHELSIE RENEE HUPP,
Valedictorian
Chelsie is the daughter of Russell and Regina Hupp of Creston. She has
participated in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society as
treasurer and vice president, Mu Alpha Theta as historian, Student Council,
yearbook co-editor, Varsity Soccer, Cross County, Prom Committee, SCORES,
Math Field Day, Boys Varsity Basketball statistician and the Follies.
Chelsie is a West Virginia Top of the Mountain Scholar and a High Honor
graduate. She has participated in Adopt-A-Highway and Energy Express.
Chelsie will attend Boston University majoring in Biochemistry. After attaining a
Ph.D. she will pursue a career in the medical research field.
BARBARA CHRISTINA SHOCK,
Valedictorian
Barbara is the daughter of Mark and Linda Shock of Grantsville. She is a Top of
the Mountain Scholar, High Honor Graduate, attended the Governor's Honors
Academy and received first place in poetry at SCORES.
Barbara is a member of the Academic Team, Red Devil Band, Mu Alpha Theta,
National Honor Society, Student Council, Young Liberals Club, President of the
Junior Class and a SHARES ambassador. She also is a 4-H and 4-H Teen Leaders
member and a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Youth Group.
Barbara will enroll in the Honors Program at West Virginia University and major in
Biology and English. She plans to work in the science/medical field.
VICTORIA LOUISE LAMONT,
Salutatorian
Victoria is the daughter of Brian and Elva Lamont of Grantsville. She has
participated in the FFA, Choir, Vandalias, Cross Country, National Honor Society,
Mu Alpha Theta, SHARES and the Peer Mediator program.
She was named Queen Flora XLI and was first runner up in the Miss West Central-West Virginia
pageant. She was also a Christmas Ball Princess, High Honor Graduate, All State
Choir for two years, and placed first in the State FFA Poultry Competition.
Victoria will attend Marshall University and plans a career in the science
field.
