The Creston area had more rain and storms. The Friday evening storm
knocked out power to several area residents who lived like old times
until Sunday.
Rev. Juanita Lockhart filled her regular appointment at the Burning
Springs M. E. church. There were 19 on hand for services. In the
afternoon she had a house blessing for Mr. & Mrs. Joe Pennington's new
log home on Burning Springs Run.
Charles and Euell Russell were calling on Johnny Mahoney who is a
resident of Mile Tree rest home at Spencer. Johnny was tickled to get
to see his old friends.
Anna Engelke, Jessica Potter and Keith Collins were visiting at the
Engelke residence over the weekend where they did some four wheeling.
They also called on Mr. & Mrs. Kenny Collins and Kyle in Elizabeth,
Joyce Edwards in Palestine and at Jane Engelke's store in Parkersburg.
Jessica got to see what living is like without electricity.
Euell & Charles Russell were consulting with Dr. Singh in Vienna.
A little bit of first cutting hay was made before the rains started
again but such operations are now on hold. One fellow wanted to put up
the hay and then plant some corn on a fertile field. Now he can do
neither.
The USDA's multiflora roses are still in their glory which goes to show
that "helpful government programs do work", it is just that the results
are not what they were advertised to be. Most of the peonies will be
gone before Decoration Day leaving nothing to use for flowers to
decorate the graves on Decoration Day.
Walter Tricket called the Creston News correspondent to report on his
Asian Beetle problems. Walter decided to count the invaders and stopped
at 16,000. He counted 500 on one window sill.
Mr. & Mrs. J. D. Francis and children, Matthew Copen, Mark Shimer, Mary
Reno, Cousin Alice, Melissa Ferrell, Andrea and Brandon Ferrell were
calling on Mr. & Mrs. Carl Ferrell & family.
Jeremy Ferrell has accepted employment at Wendys at Mineral Wells.
Don Rhodes, Matthew Copen, Glennie Edward Arthur & Terry Arthur were
among those calling on C. Glen Arthur, Butch Goodnight and Judy Gillis.
Nancy Hall celebrated her big birthday Sunday.
Amy Ferrell is now sporting a sunburn after spending the weekend with
Janet Belt on the occasion of Janet's birthday.
A local fellow was visiting at a residence and had an urgent urge to
use the facilities. Trouble was he had to go through another room to
get there and he reported seeing an awful sight.
Reflecting the report from the sands of Saudi Arabia, the price of
local crude fell $1 to $36.75. Many local residents are appalled that
some politicians are doing all sorts of things to cause problems for the
troops that are fighting the world wide war on terror. It would seem
that some do not comprehend the nature of the war and others, obviously,
do not even care.
The folks from McIntosh Hardware were calling in the Creston area.
