A final test was done yesterday evening on Calhoun's vote counting machine, an
optical scanning system.
Commissioners McCallister, Sampson and Weaver met with County Clerk Richard
Kirby to process sample ballots through the machine to certify accuracy.
Kirby said the machine performed accurately, saying the only time there have
been problems was when high humidity caused the machine to slow down.
Kirby said the Secretary of State's office sent a team to Calhoun yesterday for
oversight in the handling of the election process. The county was selected at
random.
"They visited two or three of the precincts," said Kirby, "As far as I know they did
not discover any problems."
"The election went pretty smoothly, yesterday," he said.
