FORMER GLENVILLE OFFICER SENTENCED 20 DAYS FOR BURGLARY-BRANDISHING

(05/08/2004)
A former Glenville police officer convicted of felony burglary and misdemeanor brandishing a weapon has been sentenced to 20 days in jail and five years on probation.

Michael Kendall was convicted in February in Webster County.

Kendall was acquitted of two other charges - felony attempt to commit voluntary manslaughter and misdemeanor destruction of property.

Charges against the officer stemmed from a March 2003 high-speed police chase in which Kendall was accused of ramming and firing a shot into a pickup truck driven by 20-year-old Kevin Tingler.

After officer Kendall lost Tingler, he continued to search for Tingler and entered the home of Tingler's father and drew his gun on three occupants.

Glenville's City Council fired Kendall last August.

Kendall previously served as a police officer in Clarksburg, where he resigned in 2002 amid dismissal proceedings.
