While West Virginia is publishing a brand new encyclopedia, the
effort is being
expanded to all of Appalachia. The project has gotten a boost from
the National
Endowment for the Humanities, with East Tennessee State University
being awarded
$138,000 to complete the six year project
The 2000 page encyclopedia will cover all thirteen states.
Jean Haskell is the project director. She says there is no single,
comprehensive
reference work about Appalachia. The publish date is 2003 and will
include 34
sections, with much being devoted to music. |
