Garold G. Simons, 74, of Gassaway, died Saturday, April 24, 2004, at his home, after an
extended illness.
He was born July 8, 1929, in Clay County, the son of the late Cecil and Gertie Truman
Simons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one stepdaughter,
Rebecca "Becky" Spaur Moss.
He was a driver for Kroger Co., a restaurant manager and farmer. He was a veteran of the
Korean War and a member of the American Legion Post No. 21, Spencer. He was a graduate
of
Spencer High School and a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Mt. Zion.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Henderson Simons of Gassaway; sons, Garold G.
Simons, Jr. of Spencer and Thomas C. "Tom" Simons of Gassaway; daughter, Terry Lea Carter
of Richmond, VA; stepson, Dennis Spaur of Lincolnton, NC; stepdaughters, Annette Spaur of
Vanceboro, NC, Nanette Sampson and Tammy Houchin both of Arnoldsburg; two nieces, Angela
Greathouse of Arnoldsburg and Laura Pauley of Elkview; several grandchildren and three
great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, April 27 at 1:00 p.m. in the John H. Taylor
Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Rick Swearengin officiating. Burial, with military
graveside rites, will be in the Blessed Hope Cemetery, Spencer.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00
p.m., the hour of the service.
