United Hospital Center in Clarksburg and the American Lung Association of West
Virginia, together with sponsoring hospitals and supporters, have announced the
13th annual "Camp Catch Your Breath" for children with asthma, ages 7-13.
This event will take place from August 2-6, 2004 at Jackson's Mill in Weston.
Calhoun and regional county kids are eligible to attend, according to Minnie
Hamilton Health Care Center.
"Camp Catch Your Breath" provides a fun and educational experience for children
who might not otherwise get to go to summer camp. Children will learn by
sharing their experiences, making decisions about their conditions, and
expressing their feelings about having asthma.
In addition, children will participate in games, sports, swimming, and crafts. A
stay at "Camp Catch Your Breath" will give your child an increased knowledge of
asthma, enhanced self-esteem, self-management skills, and a fun camping
experience in a safe and healthy environment.
Campers will be supervised by respiratory therapists from the participating
hospitals. Staff from the American Lung Association will also be in attendance.
A physician will be present at all times and emergency medical support will be
readily available.
Written permission from your child's health care provider is required. Parents or
guardians must send in an official form to request a registration questionnaire
and information.
To get an official form, contact Mariko Hewitt, Outreach Coordinator, Minnie
Hamilton Health Care Center, at 354-9244, ext. 235. The deadline for applications
is July 14, and attendance is limited to 70 children. The application fee is $60
per child and a limited number of scholarships are available.
