JACKSON COUNTY MURDER-SUICIDE
The bodies of 45-five-year-old Sheila Milford and her husband, 59-year-old Keith Vanhoose, were found inside their
Jackson County home over the weekend.
State Police are calling the deaths a murder-suicide.
Vanhoose was the shooter, with both victims being shot in the head.
Cpl. J. A. Bowles said the couple had not been married long. They had a history of domestic problems.
LONGTIME MURDER TRIAL IS OVER
A federal jury has found a West Virginia man and a former Pocahontas, Virginia mayor innocent of capital murder
charges in the 1989 slaying of an entire family in Pocahontas.
Pocahontas is an historic coal mining town close to the West Virginia border.
Former Mayor Charles Gilmore was accused of hiring Princeton resident Walter "Pete" Church and another man to kill
his assistant.
Prosecutors alleged the 73-year-old Gilmore hired the men in an attempt to thwart an investigation into Gilmore's drug
business.
Robert Davis, his wife, Una Mae, and her son, 14-year-old Bobby Hopewell Junior, were killed in a bloody shotgun
attack.
Both men who were charged are now free men.
MAN BRINGS GUN INTO SCHOOL
A man brought a concealed gun into Sandy River Middle School. He was stopped within minutes of leaving the
facility.
Forty-three-year-old Homer Baker of Avondale was charged yesterday with possession with the intent to deliver a
controlled substance and possession of a firearm at an educational facility.
Chief Deputy Danny Mitchell of the McDowell County Sheriff's Department says a large amount of controlled
prescription drugs and a 22-caliber firearm were recovered.
He was arraigned before Magistrate Martin West, who set bond at $50,000.
PRINCETON MAN SHOOTS ESTRANGED WIFE
One man is dead and his estranged wife is in the hospital after a domestic shooting in Princeton.
Robert Lee White, 49, went to his wife Marilyn to try and convince her to drop divorce proceedings. When she
refused, he allegedly pulled out a .38 caliber pistol and shot her several times.
White then raced off in his vehicle. According to police reports, the suspect pulled his car over to the side of the road
and shot himself in the head.
MAN KILLS FORMER GIRLFRIEND
A Mercer County jury has returned a first-degree murder verdict against 56-year-old William David Belcher of
Kimball.
Belcher shot 46-year-old Bernadette McCoy at her Princeton home in February 2003 in front of her daughter.
Police say the killing was motivated by jealousy.
POLICE INVESTIGATING WEBSTER SHOOTING
Thirty-eight-year-old Mary A. Heck was found dead in a residence in the Cowen area, shot to death.
A man in the home was injured, and was taken to a hospital for minor injuries.
The woman's body has been sent to the state medical examiner's office.
