Grantsville has just received a $1 million ARC grant to upgrade water treatment facility
2001
Grantsville's new water treatment plant is up and running these past
weeks,
delivering about 300,000 gallons of new drinking water a day to the
town and the
local Public Service Districts.
"Some people even say the water tastes better," said Dave Johnson,
water tech at
the new plant. "It is really good and safe drinking water - pure
clear water."
The facility, which cost about $2 million to construct, replaces a
water plant
constructed in Grantsville nearly 50 years ago. Efforts to build the
new facility have
been going on for years in Grantsville, covering several different
municipal
administrations.
"It is a fine running machine," said Johnson this week during a tour
of the new facility,
located off Route 5 east of Grantsville. "It can turn out a million
gallons a day," said
Johnson, "But we don't need that much yet." The plant has top of the
line
technology.
The Charles Steven's Water Plant will provide potable water to the
area well into this
century, allowing for future construction of more public service
districts.
