Arnoldsburg School is pleased to announce county winners in the Young Writers contest held last Monday, March 8, 2004.
County winners from Arnoldsburg School at the first and second grade levels was a second place by Brooklyn Smith called "A Great Vacation," and a third place by Nicholas Smith called "My Vacation to Smoke Hole Caverns." Both are second grade students in Mrs. Jan Jarrell's classroom.
Also, winning stories by the third and fourth grade students at Arnoldsburg School was a second place story written by Ricky Hall called "The Big Ocean." Ricky is a third grade student in Mrs. Renita Benson's classroom. Winning first place at this level was Monica Wilson, a third grader in Mrs. Janice Westfall's classroom. She wrote a story called "A Pencil for a Day."
As a first place county winner, Monica's story is now eligible to be entered in the state competition. Monica will also be honored at Young Writer's Day held at the University of Charleston on May 7, 2004.
