Seasonal job losses after the holidays contributed to higher unemployment in West Virginia in January.
The state Bureau of Employment Programs says the jobless rate rose to six-point-one percent. A total of 47,800 workers were listed as unemployed.
Construction went down by 3,500 jobs.
Manufacturing gained 600 and the service sector lost 5,600 jobs.
Unemployed workers are not counted in the unemployment figures once their unemployment benefits expire. |
