A gun-control advocacy group says West Virginia is a hot-bed for guns used in crimes in other states.
The study by Americans for Gun Safety says 641 guns bought in West Virginia were traced to crimes committed in other states in 2001.
The advocacy group says gun traffickers use West Virginia's so-called gun show loophole.
Federal law does not require background checks for guns sold by unlicensed dealers at these shows.
Last year, 46 gun shows were held in West Virginia.
The study was based on statistics by the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
Mississippi, Virginia and Kentucky were also near the top of states that sell guns in which crimes have been committed.
