Transcribed by Norma Knotts Shaffer from microfilm
of the Calhoun Chronicle dated 8/14/1894
M.M. Trippett, brother to L.H. Trippett, Clerk of our County Court,
was held up on Two Run, about two miles this side of Burning Springs,
a
few nights ago.
The men, one large and fleshy and the other a
small
man drew revolvers and demanded his money, to which Trippett replied
"I
only have fifteen cents," which seems to have been true, but the
would-be
robbers were not satisfied with this and told him about having sold a
horse,
and then proceeded to examine him. Finding but fifteen cents,
the
amount he claimed, they returned it and allowed him to go on his way. Â It
was true that Mr. Trippett had sold a horse, but fortunately did not
get
the money, else he would undoubtedly have been relieved of the whole
amount. Â
They had evidently been shadowing him or were parties familiar with
local
events. |
