Two persons have been indicted for a barroom brawl that preceded the death of
a Reedy man last year.
Virgil "Hippie Al" Thompson, 45, and John "Frankie" Greathouse, 39, both of
Spencer, were charged with malicious assault for a July incident at the
Borderline Club near Spencer.
The men were among 15 persons indicted by a Roane grand jury Tuesday.
Both men were working at the bar when they allegedly got into a dispute with a
patron, Nathan Murray, 20, of Crane's Nest Run.
According to the indictments, which came on testimony from State Trooper F.L.
Hammack, Greathouse struck Murray with a pool cue while Thompson hit Murray
with a ball bat.
After the fracas, Murray was treated at the Roane General Hospital emergency
room and released. He died the following day of what police said were unrelated
causes.
A medical examiner's report said the cause of death was a drug overdose...
