CRI WILL NOT BE CLOSING COUNTY OFFICE - Budget Cuts Will Be Phased-In

(01/08/2004)
Community Resources Inc. will not be closing their center in Grantsville, nor will they have to close any of their eleven county offices this year as a result of budget cuts.

The agency's Executive Director Teresa Ward had expressed fear that at least four county offices would be closed. She says the agencies financial situation is likely to get worse during the next two years.

The cuts are being phased-in over a three year period.

CRI has offices in Calhoun, Doddridge, Gilmer, Jackson, Pleasants, Ritchie, Roane, Tyler, Wetzel, Wirt and Wood counties.

CRI offers programs to low income individuals and families, including rent and utility assistance, food pantries, thrift stores, job search and transportation services - the Little Kanawha Bus Company.

CRI's regional budget of $818,000 was to be reduced by $238,000 under a proposal by the state Office of Economic Opportunity, which distributes federal funds to the state's 16 community action agencies.
