Ellen King Lafferre, 79, of Harrisville, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, after an extended illness at the residence of and in the loving care of her daughter, Jackie Webber.
Ellen was born Feb. 3, 1924, in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Jerry and Ora Vankirk King.
She wrote the "Strikes and Spares" bowling column for 21 years for the Parkersburg News. In the early '60s, she wrote the "News from Little Hocking" column in the Parkersburg News. She was a former realtor and sold real estate for Pat Gray Realty. She was an avid bowler and was a member of numerous leagues. She was a member of the American Legion. She was also a full time loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be missed forever by her family and many friends.
She is survived by two sons, Jim Mullen and special friend, Kathy, of Parkersburg; Bill Lafferre and wife, Cathy, of Toronto, Canada; three daughters, Connie Shutts and husband, Raymond, of Parkersburg, Jackie Webber and husband, Tim, of Harrisville and Judy Abbas and husband, Ali, of Grand Rapids, Mich.; two sisters, Goldie Campbell of Belpre and Mary Ide of Columbus, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Chasidy Edwards.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill Lafferre; two sisters, Ethel Clark and Icy Hudson; five brothers, Lee, Lester, Lloyd, Lantie and Bob King; and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Vaughan Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with the Rev. Pat Hoover officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen North Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-9 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to service Monday at the funeral home. |
