Press Release: WV Education Communications
The West Virginia Board of Education and Department of Education praised
schools in Calhoun County yesterday as part of the West Virginia Achieves
Recognition Tour.
Schools that meet Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), showed high achievement in a
subgroup or notable improvement in a subgroup, were recognized at last night's
school board meeting, according to Ron Blankenship, Superintendent of Calhoun
Schools.
Schools recognized in Calhoun include Arnoldsburg and Pleasant Hill
elementary.
"West Virginia Achieves, the state's No Child Left Behind plan, is what we expect of
our students - achievement. We want children to achieve and reach their greatest
potential," said State Superintendent of Schools David Stewart.
"The state-wide recognition tour is our way of celebrating school success," he
said.
The West Virginia Board of Education and the Department of Education embrace
No Child Left behind and welcome accountability for state schools, for teachers
and the future of students.
"It is a great accomplishment to have achieved Adequate Yearly Progress and I
applaud those schools that meet the mark," said Stewart.
