Submitted by Sandy Osborne, FRN Coordinator

The December meeting of the Calhoun County Family Resource Network included a presentation by the Family Nutrition Program, report on "Family Centered Practice" Training, Head Lice Program update, report on the grand opening of the Technology Opportunity Center, discussion about the community resource directory, board vacancy, and committee reports.

The featured presentation was given by Nancy Bremar, Nutrition Outreach Instructor, presenting an overview of the program, which is provided through the WVU Extension Service.

Program objectives include teaching and assisting limited resource families to make good choices when it comes to nutrition and health, and to manage food resources to insure family health through food safety and planning meals.

Instruction is being made available though agencies, organizations, and community groups. If anyone is interested in classes, contact Nancy Bremar at the WVU Extension Service, 354-6332. Fifteen people participated in the "Family Centered Practice" Training in November. Sandy Osborne reported that a role play activity at the training gave some real insight into the frustration that many people feel when dealing with agencies and systems, when it comes to getting the run-a-round.

An update was given on the Head Lice Prevention Program, reporting on distribution of treatment products in the county.

Greg Cartwright reported on the grand opening of the new Technology Opportunity Center located at the Middle/High School. Classes begin in January. For information or to register, call toll free, Gloria at 888-862-0505.

There was much discussion about updating the community resource directory and how to proceed with no funds available. Some issues were - establishing a web site for FRN and including the directory on the site, the need for a web master, and manpower needed to update current information. Some next steps were established.

Other meeting discussion included a board vacancy and committee reports.

The Calhoun FRN invites all community members to attend regular monthly meetings, held the first Monday of each month, 9:30 a.m. at the FRN office, located under J&B Drug Store, at the corner of Court and Mill Streets.
