SCHINDLER GETS ONE-TO-TEN - Hot Check Scam On Hundreds

(12/20/2003)
Chloe resident Alicia Schindler was sentenced one-to-ten years to Central Regional Jail by Calhoun Circuit Court, as a result of multiple offenses related to grand larceny, false pretenses and worthless check charges.

Deputy Sheriff Carl Ballengee said Schindler had a significant history of issuing bad checks or obtaining goods under false pretenses.

One report said she had well over 100 bad check charges.

Schindler reportedly obtained a 1997 Pontiac from Denzil Dye in Grantsville, apparently using a $4,430 check which had insufficient funds.

In another case an offense was linked to a 1990 Toyota Camry purchased from Orville Engle of Spencer, in an amount of $2500.

Schindler was taken to court for worthless checks to Speedy Mart, Y-Mart, Stinson Grocery and Cha-Tis, in addition to seven false pretense charges and one grand larceny charge.

She had written dozens of bad checks to regional businesses.
