| We do not publish occassional/selected obituaries from local/regional funeral homes, not desiring to discriminate against any family to have the same free obituary/photo.
One of the most frequently received e-mails to the Herald questions why we don't publish obituaries from a regional county or a specific funeral home.
The answer is simple.
They have all been asked, but have chosen not to submit their obituaries and photos, although they are free of charge.
The Herald site has over 2.2 million visitors annually, read daily by thousands of users in regional and WV counties, in addition to the multitude of readers across the USA.
Regional daily newspapers generally charge about $200 to publish the full obituary, extra for photos.
Most of the time families and funeral homes in the region take the less expensive route and publish a free notice, which includes the name, address, death date and funeral announcement.
The Herald generally publishes obituaries with the complete content as submitted by a funeral home. Corrections and additions should be made through the submitting funeral home.
Obituaries and photos can be submitted to the Herald by e-mail.
The Herald does accept obituaries from immediate family members.
