Winfield Scott Bailey, 88 - Minnora

Winfield Scott Bailey, 88, of Minnora, died September 4, 2015 at Roane General Hospital.

He was born December 12, 1926 on Sears Run Road in Calhoun County, the only son of LuLu Bailey of Minnora.

He was a World War II Veteran serving two years as Staff SGT overseas with the U.S. Army. After returning home, he married his childhood sweetheart and had 68 years of blissful marriage. He loved farming and farmed his 265 acre farm with his pair of draft horses. In later years, he worked at the Monarch Rubber Company and retired from there after 32 years of service.

He enjoyed being in the woods, hunting, bee keeping, ginseng hunting, mushroom hunting and especially staying at the cabin, "Windy Knob". He was an avid gardener and loved reminiscing about the old days and visiting with his friends and neighbors on his front porch.

He was a craftsman at heart, working with wood and weaving white oak baskets, carving wooden bowls, spoons and paddles. He loved passing his knowledge onto others and especially to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving is his wife, Edith Gae Hoover Bailey, three daughters, Sharon (Joe) Groves of Orrville, Ohio, Marty (Bob) Park of Minnora, WV and Joyce (Al) Meek of Lexington, KY. Ten grandchildren, Greg Park, Michelle Sundberg, Crissy Johnson, Mike Groves, David Bailey, Shanna Bailey, Heather Rosier, Joe Park, Cody Meek, Cassie Meek, and 10 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, John Scott Bailey, one brother Benjamin Hasting Bailey, and one sister Cora Bailey.

Visiting hours will be held at the Stump's Funeral Home in Arnoldsburg on Tuesday, September 8 from 6-8 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, September 9 at 11:00 a.m. Officiating the services will be his nephew, Chaplain Thomas Hoover and Evangelist Randy Wilson. Following the services, burial will be at the Minnora Cemetery.
