Helen said, "The people who love Calhoun are still my family. What I
did was because I wanted the best for my students, my children and my
grandchildren and their friends. I wanted them to expand their world
through field trips, travel, leadership opportunities, camps,
conferences, service projects and hands on learning. I did not use a
text book; we had reference books and materials from various Home Ec.
related sources. I also wanted to keep learning myself."
The FHA Creed was her guide: "We face the future with warm courage and high hope. For we have the clear consciousness of seeking old and
precious values. For we are the builders of homes, homes for America's future, homes where living will be the expression of everything that is good and fair, homes where truth, love, security and faith will be realities, not dreams. We face the future with warm courage and high hope."
She said, "The night before I returned to teaching, after 20 years
absence, I was scared and not sure I could face demands of the
classroom. I was leafing through the Bible and it opened to Colossians 3:23: 'Work hard at all you do fifa 15 coins, just as though you were working for the Lord Jesus Christ, and not merely for your masters.' It calmed me down and I was confident and ready to go." The Scout Promise also made a deep impression. "On my honor I will try to do my duty to God and my Country, to help other people at all times and to obey the Scout Laws."
